Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Melayu Melalui Pengelolaan Ikan Di Dusun Bagan Benio

Abstract

The village of Bagan Benio, with a population of 1,512 people, is located in the SM Giam Siak Kecil area and is part of Tasik Serai Village, Talang Muandau Subdistrict, Bengkalis Regency. Access to this village, situated within the Biosphere Reserve, can be achieved through both road and river travel. The Bagan Benio River spans approximately 50 meters, while Bagan Benio Lake covers 60 hectares. The majority of Bagan Benio's population belongs to the Melayu Gonggang ethnic group (99.9%) and engages primarily in fishing, rubber farming, and various other livelihoods. The potential for fisheries, such as salted fish and smoked fish, exists in the village but has not been fully realized due to limitations in human resources for management. Community service is the focus of this research, employing the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Method. ABCD is an approach that views communities as owners of potential and assets that can be utilized for development. In addition to human potential, assets can also be derived from the natural resources in the surrounding environment, all of which can be harnessed in community empowerment strategies. The implementation process of the ABCD program consists of five stages: Discovery, Dream, Design, Define, and Destiny.
